So far, so good

Another year is soon in the books, and it’s time to summarize the first year of developing Pure Nylon.

In short; we have achieved just about exactly what we aimed at:

  • We can import, just about any, properly formatted, OCAD file, with little or no hands on
  • We can select what kind of forest the map should be rendered as (think generalized presets; like coniferous or deciduous forest)
  • We can then generate a nice looking 3D world from that, with a majority of the OCAD symbols implemented in-game
  • We can import IOF XML course files
  • We can generate an almost up-to-standard ISOM 2017-2 orienteering map for display in game, with the course printed over
  • We have implemented most “game rules”; such as different running speeds in different areas according to ISOM-2017-2, and disqualification when entering forbidden areas
  • In fact we can now run a complete race, with timing and controls can be punched (and must be punched in correct order)

We had some hopes on getting into closed alpha testing before the end of this year, but that will not happen. Instead we have been prioritizing jamming in features.

So, to get ready for alpha testing the next iteration will focus on:

  1. Optimizations
  2. User interfaces
  3. Steam integration

Hopefully we can begin testing during Q3 2025. Send us an e-mail if you’d like to be part of testing!

There’s a lot work left before this is a complete game, but we’re slowly getting there.
